We never seem to have enough clean forks. Seems like we just did a load of dishes, and yet there are hardly any clean forks. Why is that? In fact, a quick count reveals that we have fewer forks than spoons... But we didn't before. Where did they go?
It's a mystery!
Flashback to a couple of days ago. Our two-year old daughter is done with a snack, and I ask her to take her dishes to the sink. Off she goes into the kitchen. The plate is put on the counter and the fork goes straight into the trashcan. She even dusts off her hands and sighs after putting it in, as though it gave her a tremendous sense of satisfaction to know that it was a job well done.
Mystery solved.
The next few minutes were spent retrieving the fork and explaining proper dish handling. I don't know if it sank in, though. For awhile, I think it would be best to keep a closer eye on our forks.
